Last month, HCS announced students will not have the day off when it snows for the remainder of the year. They are concerned students will not have enough time in class if they cancel school for snow days.

When polled, 75% of students said they should not have to attend school virtually when it snows. Students who oppose the new measure feel worried that others will miss work and the teachers will bring their grades down.

However, there are a few students that feel like this is a good idea because you won’t have to catch up on work. When asked about the new snow day policy, one student shared, “Yes, it would be nice to have a day off, but catching up after a day off is always a hassle.”

The new snow day policy may not be popular, but it may be a better alternative than having to extend the school year. As the weather warms up, the new policy is unlikely to impact students this year. Next year, however, may be a different story.
