Have you ever asked where you can learn of school events this year? Have you ever been curious about how the student events are put together?
Student Council Association is the club that handles a wide array of student events. So far this year, they coordinated the pep rally, homecoming, and Bethel’s first ever presidential debate.
In spite of this, not many students seem to know what SCA is or even what it does. When the Bear Facts staff polled students, only 1 in 5 indicated that they knew about SCA, and even fewer knew how they could get involved.
“In order for a student to run for SCA, … the president and vice president have to have served for a year,” Ms. Young, the club advisor, revealed. “They have to be a senior or a junior. It’s a democratic process; they have to be placed on the ballot, and then the SCA places their votes.”
Essentially, voting for most of the SCA positions is done in-house. Students run for a certain office, and SCA members vote to determine who will fill each position. Given how much SCA does, it is always looking for more members
“I would like to see more pep rallies for the lower grades like sophomores and freshman,” senior Kaylee Peterson said. This year, she tried to join SCA but missed the first and second meetings of the year. To be an SCA member, you have to attend both.
If you are hoping to see more events moving forward, consider joining SCA. By being a part of SCA, you can share your voice and bring real change to our school.
