Boys volleyball has been overlooked for many years at Bethel but that is about to change. With the season looking bright for the team, it’s time for us to support our fellow Bruins on their road to the playoffs.
The men’s volleyball team works just as hard if not harder than athletes for any other sport we have here, and there is a steep learning curve for anyone trying to break into the sport.
“It took a while to understand the basics such as receiving and passing,” Israel Hopson, who joined the team this season, shared.
When facing strong opponents such as Kecoughtan, Menchville, and Gloucester, it’s important to prepare promptly and correctly.
A key part to a successful volleyball team is to have a supportive and rowdy crowd. That’s where the Bethel Bruin student body comes in. When asked how they would convince a fellow student to attend a game, Eagle responded “Cause i’m out there.” insinuating that he’s the show.
“It’s energetic,” Korrey Stephens added. “It’s fun to watch, [and] it’s definitely fun when your team is doing what they’re supposed to do. The crowd gets you in it for sure.”
As with any sport, a fundamental part of volleyball is for players to feed off of a crowd.
