Throughout his career, Allen Iverson never forgot his alma mater, Bethel High School. After donating to the school quietly for many years, he sponsored the renovation of our gym in 2019. Four years later, the gym still looks brand new and remains a source of Bruin pride.

Iverson is arguably the greatest basketball player to come out of the state of Virginia. When he attended school here at Bethel, Iverson played basketball and football. He was very successful in both sports, and his high school accolades include the 1992 VHSL State Football Champion and 1993 VHSL Basketball State Champion. After leaving us, he attended Georgetown University, which launched him into the ranks of the NBA. Iverson won 1997 NBA rookie of the year, and he was an 11 time NBA all star, 3x all NBA 1st team, 1 time NBA MVP and in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

A testament to Iverson’s commitment to his community, the Bruin gym is a highlight of the Bethel experience, one which many students to come will get a chance to experience.
