Last weekend, in the heat of Indio, California, over 100,000 thousand fans gathered to see some of their favorite artists at the Coachella Music festival. For the first time in nearly two years, headliners Harry Styles, Billie Eilish and Swedish House Mafia x The Weeknd, attracted festival-goers with their mind-blowing and lively setlists and performances.

On April 15th, at the main Coachella stage at 11:35pm,, Styles took the stage to the sound of thousands of screaming fans. As he pranced and danced across an “F” shaped catwalk, he performed two new songs from his highly anticipated, upcoming third album. Supported by only his and his bandmates’ voices, he performed ‘Boyfriends,’a slow acoustic ballad with shocking and blatantly emotional lyrics. He followed this up with the upbeat and lively song, “Late Night Talking.” Against a background of brass and woodwind instruments, Styles captured the desire to stay up and talk all night with your love interest.

Not stopping the surprise-factor of the show, Styles next invited a special guest to perform with him on stage. Famous country star icon and friend, Shania Twain, who he has looked up to since childhood,  shared the stage with him for about 15 minutes. This incredibly talented duo performed Twain’s hit songs, “Man, I Feel Like A Woman” and an acoustic version of “You’re Still The One.”

Styles’ performance not only took his fans at the festival by storm, but also the thousands of fans watching the live stream at home. His performance broke the internet, had girls screaming, and new fans stanning him. He truly captivated his entire audience by his attentive and unique style of performing. The choice of the order of his setlist had the crowd dancing, and then weeping, and then dancing some more.

He closed out the show with his beautiful ballad and first ever solo single, ‘Sign of the Times’ with a display of fireworks behind him and the stage. In his closing, he also included a timely acknowledgement of what is taking place in Ukraine with the country’s flag and yellow and blue fireworks staining the sky. He thanked everyone profusely for their support.

An entertainment reporter for The Independent, Leonie Cooper observed that Styles’s “influences span…[from] David Bowie to Elton John and Fleetwood Mac.” She adds, “His shape-shifting chart fodder is made with wide-open stages and mammoth audiences in mind.” Most reviewers stated the same things, congratulating and praising Styles for his breathtaking performance.

The craziest thing about this is that he has to do it all again next weekend. Will there be another special guest? Will it be his friend and fellow singer, Lizzo? Will he enchant his fans with more new songs from his upcoming album ‘Harry’s House?’ This reporter is not ashamed to admit that I am eager to learn the answers to these questions this weekend: April 22nd through April 24h.
