Abortions are adverse because innocent life is being killed and women can suffer from health deficiencies later in life. The killing of an innocent human being is wrong, even if that human being has yet to be born.

However, there is a  large controversy between the ideas surrounding abortion. Different religions, beliefs, customs, and cultures all have their own takes on this political issue. The debate of abortion can lead to violent or nonviolent protests or to something simple like an article in the newspaper.

Some cultural belief systems, not only around the world but also here in the United States believe that abortion is a form of murder while others believe in the idea of “your body, your choice.”

“Your body, your choice,” is the idea that someone is permitted to get an abortion within the legal 3 month period after conception in the United States without it being considered illegal. However, the argument about abortion that’s current is the fact that people use abortion as a form of birth control. The death of human life for the purpose of birth control is wrong.

Unborn babies are considered human beings by the U.S. government. The federal Unborn Victims of Violence Act, which was enacted “to protect unborn children from assault and murder,” states that under federal law, anybody intentionally killing or attempting to kill an unborn child should “be punished… for intentionally killing or attempting to kill a human being.”

The act also states that an unborn child is a “member of the species homo sapiens.”At least 38 states have passed similar fetal homicide laws. The legalization of abortion sends a message that human life has little value. In Jan. 2014, a phrase stating that “what is thrown away is not only food and dispensable objects, but often human beings themselves, who are discarded as ‘unnecessary'”

The following peer review studies identify the risks associated with abortions: Scandinavian Journal of Public Health claim increased depression after the abortion; BMC Medicine reports”significantly higher” anxiety scores up to five years after the pregnancy termination and Southern Medical Journal says more than 173, 000 American who abort are 154% more likely to commit suicide than women who carry full term

People need to take responsibility for their actions and accept the consequences. Having sexual intercourse, even when contraceptive methods are used, carries with it the risk of pregnancy. The unborn baby should not be punished for a mistake made by adults. If women are unprepared to care for their children, or have been sexually assaulted, they should at least put them up for adoption and women who are simply looking for a way out of parenthood should not be allowed to have abortions.

Just like those who argue that women should be able to make their own choices, unborn children should be allowed to live. Unfortunately, they do not get to choose.
